Broner Calls Out Devin Haney: But Why?

Adrien Broner, never one to shy away from the limelight, has thrown down the gauntlet to Devin Haney, the undisputed lightweight champion. The verbal jabs escalated after Bill Haney, Devin's father, downplayed Broner's status in a recent video. In response, Broner took to Instagram, challenging the rising star to a grudge match.

In a fiery post, Broner addressed Bill Haney directly, stating, "If you wanna get your son Devin Haney messed up, send the contract. I ain’t never ran from no man in boxing, why would I run from your son? He can’t punch himself out a wet paper bag. Stop all that cap, 'cause I’m with the [expletive], and I want all the smoke. Show me the dotted line!"

The elder Haney swiftly responded, acknowledging Broner's past influence on the sport but asserting that it's now the era of Devin Haney. Despite the animosity, he emphasized that it's business, not personal.

However, the reality is that Broner and Devin Haney are on divergent paths in their boxing journeys. The 25-year-old Haney has enjoyed a stellar two years, unifying the lightweight division and transitioning to 140 pounds with a dominant victory over Regis Prograis in December.

In contrast, Broner, plagued by inactivity, injuries, and personal issues, finds himself in a different stage of his career. With just one fight in the past two years, he is navigating a challenging comeback. The generational clash between Broner and Devin Haney symbolizes a collision of past glory and emerging talent, making it a spectacle that fight fans wouldn't want to miss.
