Lennox Lewis Voices Concerns Over Credibility of Joshua vs. Ngannou Clash

In the lead-up to the highly anticipated bout between Anthony Joshua and Francis Ngannou in Riyadh on March 8, former heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis expresses skepticism about the fight's credibility.

While acknowledging the spectacle and financial allure, Lewis questions the value this matchup adds to Joshua's resume.

"Ngannou's fight with Tyson Fury was a spectacle. This fight with AJ is also a spectacle," Lewis notes on social media. "Hats off to Ngannou for making the most of his opportunities. He's done nothing wrong. This is just the heavyweight division in the year 2024."

However, Lewis argues that, from a competitive standpoint, the fight offers little to Joshua. "In my opinion, this fight adds zero credibility to AJ's resume," he asserts. "If he wins, what does he gain or learn by beating Ngannou in his second heavyweight fight? If he loses, then it's an absolute disaster."

While acknowledging the scarcity of big-money opponents for Joshua and the absence of an immediate Fury showdown, Lewis raises concerns about the risk-reward balance in this matchup. Despite acknowledging the prevalent trend of less-than-intriguing fights in boxing, Lewis questions the long-term benefits for Joshua in facing Ngannou at this stage of his career.
